The Noctor Lab investigates development of the cerebral cortex, with a special focus on factors that regulate neural and glial precursor cells during gestation. The central goal of the lab is to establish a firm foundation for understanding systems that control normal brain development to better understand the origins of neurodevelopmental disorders. We investigate brain development in a variety of vertebrates, including nonhuman primates. Our current work investigates interactions between neural precursor cells, innate immune cells, and the developing vascular system in the prenatal brain.<\/p>\n

We are located in\u00a0the UC Davis MIND Institute<\/a>, a research enterprise that brings together basic researchers and clinical researchers dedicated to the understanding, prevention, care, and cures of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.<\/p>\n

The MIND Institute is located on the Sacramento campus along with the School of Medicine, the Stem Cell Program<\/a>, the Institute for Regenerative Cures, and the UC Davis Imaging Research Center<\/a>\u00a0among others.<\/p>\n

Word on the background image<\/em><\/strong>: On a recent trip to the Grand Canyon I hiked down into the canyon and once again marveled at the exposed geological layers, thinking about the processes that developed the beautiful stratification of the Colorado Plateau visible in the canyon. And glad I have the privilege to work in a setting that lets us investigate the formation of the cortical layers.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
